[09:35]<@BC_Programming> boots in like 3 seconds now hooray
[09:41]<@BC_Programming> hmm this idea to have the old boot drive a secondary may not work though :/ miRC is all I've been able to grab so far
[09:56]<Craig> What do you mean by grab?
[09:56]<@BC_Programming> Copy
[09:56]<Craig> I would say any microsoft program is going to need to be reinstalled. 99% of them need registry entries.
[09:57]<@BC_Programming> well duh I'm not talking about programs really though
[09:57]<@BC_Programming> mostly the contents of %APPDATA%
[09:57]<@BC_Programming> but the user folder on the other drive is filled with invalid Security structures or something so take ownership is taking a long time
[09:59]<@BC_Programming> but it's going, hope I can access it
[09:59]<@BC_Programming> worst case scenario elevated command prompt seems to work so I suppose I could xcopy
[10:02]<@BC_Programming> Also couldn't install the SSD using screws, forgot my case uses attached rails
[10:02]<@BC_Programming> ended up tucking it below the drive cage
[10:03]<+camerongray> Yeah, that's fine to do
[10:03] * KindOne (KindOne@mib-DD2DF5D8.dynamic.ip.windstream.net) Quit (Ping timeout)
[10:03]<+camerongray> You haven't seen my HTPC - The SSD is in the drive cage, not attached or anything, but it's sort of sitting in them :P
[10:04]<@BC_Programming> hah
[10:04]<+camerongray> Messiest build ever as it's a tiny case and Antec thought it would be hilarious to put stupidly long cables on the PSU
[10:04]<@BC_Programming> yeah mine is pretty secure, it fits perfectly between these two metal bits that are sticking out of the bottom
[10:04]<+camerongray> And it has a little LCD and remove reciever so there are cables all over the place for that
[10:04]<@BC_Programming> oooh Xcopy works, got my Firefox profile copied perfectly, nifty
[10:05]<+camerongray> For example the power button connects to the IR reciever and then the IR reciever goes to the motherboard's power header so I can turn on with the remote, cables get pretty messy
[10:05]<+camerongray> And someone at Antec thought it would be a great idea to run a power cable to the LCD from the ATX connector rather than, ya know, a Molex or something
[10:06] * KindOne (KindOne@E4172A90.736D2691.90984A5.IP) has joined #glitchpc
[10:06]<@BC_Programming> heheh
[10:06]<@BC_Programming> power cable from what? Not from the mains?
[10:09]<@BC_Programming> everything is so much faster now :D
[10:13]<@BC_Programming> xcopy all of the things
[10:21]<@BC_Programming> hmm
[10:22]<@BC_Programming> well
[10:22]<@BC_Programming> that really pisses me off
[10:22]<@BC_Programming> apparently changing the security settings wiped all my wallpaper .psd files
[10:23]<@BC_Programming> and I still don't have permission to access them
[10:28]<@BC_Programming> oh wait they are on my laptop derp
[10:31]<Craig> You should just remove all the properties of the drive with a command prompt.
[10:31]<Craig> Permissions wise I mean
[10:32]<@BC_Programming> the ACLs are corrupted
[10:32]<Craig> ACL's?
[10:32]<@BC_Programming> Access Control List... that's now Security settings work...
[10:33]<Craig> Ahh, they don't get corrupted, your new install doesnt know where their references are, so they should just be UUID's
[10:33]<@BC_Programming> sigh
[10:33]<@BC_Programming> I set the permissions to include my new user
[10:33]<Craig> Right, did you take ownership?
[10:33]<@BC_Programming> while it was setting those permissions I got loads of "the Security Information is Corrupted" errors
[10:33]<Craig> Ahhh Nvm
[10:34]<@BC_Programming> I can still access it from an elevated command prompt so I can just xcopy
[10:34]<@BC_Programming> I could probably log off and back in under the administrator account and use Explorer as well if I needed to
[10:42]<@BC_Programming> the steam folder is big
[10:42]<@BC_Programming> That's me stating the obvious I suppose
[10:46]<Craig> Hehehe, if you install steam where you want it then copy that, you shouldn't have to reinstall your games. :)
[10:47]<Jamer> one old cpu prepped for gold removal
[10:47]<@BC_Programming> Craig: my saves won't magick themselves off the old drive
[10:48]<@BC_Programming> also, I don't want to wait for them all to download since copying them will be faster :P
[10:48]<Craig> :P
[10:51]<@BC_Programming> though come to think of it maybe .minecraft will be bigger, haha
[10:54]<@BC_Programming> in retrospect I should have only cherry-picked for the games I actually play
[10:56]<Craig> Bahahahahaha
[10:57]<@BC_Programming> it's spending most of it's time copying Garry's Mod and Half Life 2 stuff, I haven't played either of those in ages...
[10:57]<Craig> HAHAHAHAHAH
[11:01]<Craig> Hey BC, wanna play starbound yet? How is your IDE reinstall going?
[11:02]<@BC_Programming> lol I have nothing reinstalled
[11:02]<@BC_Programming> this is going to take all day even with an SSD
[11:02]<@BC_Programming> speaking of starbound the steam copy is finally copying that
[11:07]<@BC_Programming> haha 78056 files copied
[11:10]<Craig> Wow
[11:11]<@BC_Programming> I think .minecraft may be competition though
[11:26]<@BC_Programming> yep minecraft won
[11:26]<@BC_Programming> 95501 files

[12:31]<@BC_Programming> WEI score went up to 6.8 due to the SDD
[12:36]<+camerongray> Nice, but they aren't worth it :P
[12:36]<@BC_Programming> aren't worth what?
[12:36]<+camerongray> SSDs :P
[12:36]<+camerongray> And it will break
[12:36]<@BC_Programming> oh hahaa
[12:37]<@BC_Programming> yeah if it fails I'll never trust SSDs again! even though I've had 5 HDDs fail....
[12:37]<Craig> ... are you guys making fun of me? :P
[12:37]<+camerongray> Just a little... :P
[12:37]<@BC_Programming> :P
[12:39]<@BC_Programming> installing things from Optical discs is almost painful now
[12:39]<+camerongray> lol yeah
[12:39]<@BC_Programming> just watch the Disc drive whir away for like a minute
[12:39]<@BC_Programming> then it writes out what it wrote to the SSD... and it just blinks

[12:41]<+camerongray> Hey Calum
[12:41]<@Calum> hey camerongray
[12:42]<@Calum> so, enjoying the new SSD, BC?
[12:42]<@BC_Programming> ugh now I can't connect to the VPN again
[12:42]<@BC_Programming> really wish we'd just get a new freaking server
[12:42]<@BC_Programming> ahh there it is, yay
[12:43]<@BC_Programming> Calum: indeed
[12:43]<@BC_Programming> from some ridiculous amount like 2 minutes to a usable desktop from cold boot to a matter of seconds
[12:43]<@Calum> it's incredible isn't it
[12:44]<@BC_Programming> shame I have to install the bigger things from DVDs
[12:51]<@BC_Programming> the silence is weird
[12:51]<@BC_Programming> I mean from the drive
[12:52]<@Calum> heh, I found I never really noticed the noise from my HDDs till it was gona
[12:52]<@Calum> *gone
[12:52]<@Calum> I never listened and thought "yeah, that drive is loud" or anything
[12:52]<@BC_Programming> yeah I knew it would be silent but somehow it's weird
[12:53]<@BC_Programming> I slaved my 750GB though so I do get some HDD sounds
[12:53]<@Calum> I went from 4 HDDs to a HDD and an SSD, and then moved my HDD to an external caddy, so it was probably a bit more noticeable for me heh
[12:54]<@BC_Programming> I'm xcopying all of the things
[12:54]<@Calum> but even with a HDD still in, because it's barely being accessed most of the time it's still quite a difference
[12:54]<@BC_Programming> yeah
[12:54]<@BC_Programming> I'm thinking particularly during boot
[12:54]<@BC_Programming> I'm used to this constant thrashing, as the HDD desperately clings to life
[12:54]<@Calum> hah
[12:54]<@Calum> yeah
[12:55]<@BC_Programming> and I'll have a 4TB in there probably next week, to store uh... Linux distros
[12:55]<@Calum> ;)
[12:57]<@BC_Programming> this will make development soooo much easier
[12:57]<@BC_Programming> no more sitting around waiting
[12:57]<@Calum> indeed
[13:00]<@BC_Programming> well that's useful, I don't have to actually reconfigure Visual Studio because it's settings are connected to my MS account
[13:00]<@BC_Programming> that saves me like an hour of tweaking
[13:00]<@Calum> cool
[13:03]<@jacky> BC_Programming: Hello
[13:03]<@jacky> Calum: Hello
[13:03]<@jacky> BC_Programming: See you later

[13:03]<@jacky>
[13:03]<@BC_Programming> haha
[13:03]<@Calum> hehe
[13:03]<@jacky> :)

[13:03]<@Calum> heehee
[13:03]<@BC_Programming> hihi
[13:03]<@BC_Programming> and sometimes hyhy
[13:03]<@Calum> that just sounds like you're greeting two people
[13:04]<@BC_Programming> true
[13:04]<@BC_Programming> well I'm never going to use a HDD for a System Drive ever again if I can help it
[13:04]<+camerongray> lol *high five*
[13:04]<@Calum> excellent, the plan is proceeding as expected
[13:05]<+camerongray> All my boot drives are SSD except for servers
[13:05]<+camerongray> ssshhh Calum, never mention the 'plan'
[13:05]<@Calum> oops
[13:05]<@BC_Programming> of course exception for old PCs, my P4 is not going to get an SSD
[13:06]<@Calum> that's discrimination
[13:06]<@Calum> SSDs for all
[13:06]<@BC_Programming> it doesn't even have an HDD in it at all come to think of it
[13:06]<@Calum> regardless of processing power
[13:08]<@Calum> I installed Linux for the first time yesterday by the way, be proud of my tiny accomplishment
[13:08]<@BC_Programming> I thought you had used it before
[13:08]<@BC_Programming> I must be thinking of cool people
[13:09]<@Calum> hah, I've used it before (with much handholding), just not installed it
[13:09]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah
[13:09]<@BC_Programming> what's your largest SSD guys
[13:09]<@Calum> installed it on one of these laptops to give it a quick try, went alright actually, quite quick
[13:09]<@Calum> My largest is a 160
[13:10]<@BC_Programming> HAHA I WIN
[13:10]<@Calum> and it's not even in use heh
[13:10]<+camerongray> 256gb
[13:10]<@Calum> I have 2 x 128s and 8 x 32s, and probably broken 64 and 60
[13:10]<+camerongray> Actually, 250gb
[13:11]<@BC_Programming> I can't decide it if would be faster to install Office 2013 using this DVD or to download the iso, mount it, and install it that way
[13:11]<@BC_Programming> I like the latter, it sounds funner
[13:11]<@Calum> heh
[13:13]<@Calum> hm, it appears I got saturday delivery on my order without paying for it, not sure how or why
[13:13]<@Calum> that's cool though, means I got that order with the £10 board sooner :)
[13:14]<@Calum> I might put those 5 Intel 32GB drives in RAID 0, just to see how they do, but I think they might reach the chipset's limit
[13:15]<+camerongray> lol yeah, why did you get them :P
[13:15]<@Calum> heh, because they were nice and cheap, and small SSDs are actually quite useful
[13:15]<@Calum> they're good for boot drives or lighter users
[13:16]<@BC_Programming> heavy people need not apply
[13:16]<@Calum> I have a few laptops I can put them in
[13:16]<+camerongray> Ahh cool
[13:16]<@Calum> and because hey, who doesn't need fancy SLC SSDs in their life :P
[13:16]<@Calum> theoretically if I put them all in RAID 0 I'd get around 1.25GB/sec read speeds, and have a 150GB drive
[13:18]<@BC_Programming> I like how I was able to just copy my Firefox profile from the other drive and start it up and bang it's exactly the same as before
[13:18]<@BC_Programming> just 1500% faster

[13:27]<Tux2> Would you prefer an amazon.com or an amazon.ca gift card?
[13:28]<@BC_Programming> amazon.ca but if memory serves I tried to use one before and it also requires credit card info
[13:28]<Tux2> Oh? It shouldn't.
[13:28]<@BC_Programming> maybe I used it wrong
[13:28]<Tux2> lol, hmm...
[13:29]<Tux2> Because I want to give you a gift card as a thank you for maintaining GP, but if you just want it in paypal I can do that too.
[13:31]<@BC_Programming> that would work better yeah, though to be fair you did throw me some monies already when I was having trouble back in the day, thx again for that btw
[13:31]<Craig> How are all the installs going BC? I am suprised you didn't backup your DVD installers to the HDD. I always did, loads WAY faster. :P

[13:35]<@BC_Programming> in starbound? I don't know
[13:35]<Craig> ok
[13:35]<@BC_Programming> When I fought the UFO boss I just had a lot of Obsidian and it was pretty tough so that's why I used it mostly
[13:36]<Craig> Answer is no. :P
[13:36]<Craig> Makes sense, I am going to be doing the same thing shortly. :)
[13:36]<Tux2> Okay BC_Programming, money is sent.

[13:44]<Craig> I now have 450 Obsidian. :>
[13:45]<+camerongray> Oh yeah, we had a plan at uni :P
[13:46]<+camerongray> Setting up a Minecraft server on the new CompSoc box - We will all work to build a redstone CPU
[13:48]<@BC_Programming> again?

[13:48]<Craig> Hhahahahah
[13:49]<+camerongray> lol!
[13:49]<+camerongray> I built a redstone adder before ;P
[13:49]<+camerongray> Not an actual CPU

[13:51]<@BC_Programming> bars or ore?
[13:51]<Craig> Bars
[13:51]<@BC_Programming> nice
[13:52]<Craig> About that same number in Ore, :p
